Mother Elizabeth "Lizzy" Moody Gunter 93, peacefully departed thus earthly life on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Faith Healthcare Nursing Center in Florence, SC after an illness. Mother Elizabeth 'Lizzy" Gunter was born on October 14, 1923 in Georgetown, SC. She was the daughter of the late Helen Spivey Dow-Moody and Tom Moody (Step-father). She was educated in the public schools of Marion County, SC. With such beauty, she was joined in holy matrimony to the handsome late Morris "Buddy" They were graced with two daughters and helped rear many others in the family. She was employed at So-Pak-Co, Inc. in Mullins, SC for some years and a very committed worker on her husband's farm until his health failed.
Mother Elizabeth Gunter accepted the word of God into her heart and became a devoted and dutiful member of The Greater Highway Church of Christ in 1952. Having much admiration and belief in her Pastor, Mother and Deacon Gunter were great Pioneers of the church. She served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, Church treasurer, Usher board president, church cook and on the Missionary board until her failing health. The treasurers of her life were her family, church, and friends. It brought her great joy whenever she was surrounded by them. Lizzy was encouraging and caring to all whom she knew and loved. But her most memorable legacy was her wonderful culinary cooking skills that always brought the family together.
Preceded her in death ~ one grandchild: Bernadette "Frank" Neal and one aunt: Emma Spivey Pugh.
She leaves her cherish memories ~ two daughters: Burnetta (Jessie) Elleby of Charlotte, N and Rosemary Wilson of Atlanta, GA; son-n-law: Kinnie Wilson of Marion, SC; four grandchildren: Jonathan (Maxine) Elleby of Charlotte, NC, Demorrisous Gunter, Kintoria and Zynyona Wilson of Atlanta, GA; eleven great grands; one loving brother: James Henry Dow Sr. of Marion, SC; two aunts Isadora Sam of Marion, SC and Edna Gunter of Baltimore, MD; special niece/caregiver: Bertha Foxworth of Florence, SC; special family friends: Deacon David and Albertine Moody and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and spiritual friends who held that special place in Lizzy's heart.
